Dia de los Muertos shirt Product Description
The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos in Spanish, is a holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd in many parts of the world, including Mexico, Brazil, the United States, and the Philippines, to honor those who have passed on. While related to Halloween, the rituals of the holiday have been practiced for millennia and can be traced back to the indigenous people of Mexico, including the Olmec and Mayans. In many ways, it is a celebration of death, but only in the way that death marks the transition of our loved ones to the next stage of life. The sacred dead are honored with altars adorned with brightly decorated sugar skulls and orange marigolds - the cempasuchil, also known as the Flower of the Dead. This design incorporates elements of an altar dedicated to a loved mother.
